Hello Lighthouse

Hello Lighthouse | Historical Fiction | Sophie Blackall | Caldecott Medal | ages 2-6 |

In the lighthouse, a new man comes to live in, and it comes with many responsibilities. Working in the lighthouse is a big job that helps boats in the sea find their way, and warns against any storm. Lighthouse keeper starts his family here and he writes about everything in his logbook. One day, the need for a lighthouse keeper is no longer needed. The lighthouse will now shine without oil.

I enjoyed this book we learn about a lighthouse, considering I've never seen one in real life. Even more, I didn't know people lived in there, much less the purpose of it. This book has beautiful illustration and making visuals even with the words. A page literally unfolds making the book a bit more interesting. I recommend using this book in the class to learn about these topics. It's appropriate for grade levels preschool to third grade. With your class, you can create your own lighthouse out of construction paper.
